A donor-advised fund is a charitable giving account at a public charity.
A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a charitable account at a public charity. You contribute, may receive a tax deduction in the contribution year, and recommend grants over time. The sponsor retains legal control of the assets.
DAFs vary by sponsor in minimums, fees, accepted assets, and grant policies. They're governed by IRS Sections 4966 and 4967 (Pension Protection Act of 2006).

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a personal charitable giving account a donor may already have or establish at a sponsor like Fidelity Charitable, DAFgiving360 (formerly Schwab Charitable), Vanguard Charitable, ImpactAssets, or another DAF sponsor.
The CANCER FUND Community Donor-Advised Fund (CFC-DAF) is a donor-advised fund established at ImpactAssets to support early-stage cancer developing innovations with the potential to improve patient outcomes and access to care. Grants and investments from the CFC-DAF are made on the recommendation of the CFC-DAF Donor Advisor. ImpactAssets, as the sponsoring 501(c)(3), owns and administers the CFC-DAF and retains full legal discretion over its grant and investment decisions.
DAF-to-DAF Support: Donors with their own DAF at another sponsor can recommend a grant from their DAF to ImpactAssets, designated to the CFC-DAF. This is effectively a transfer of charitable assets between two donor-advised funds, both held at IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) public charities.
Direct contributions: Donors without a DAF can contribute to the CANCER FUND Community Donor-Advised Fund directly via credit card or other accepted methods. Direct contributions are made to ImpactAssets, designated to the CFC-DAF.
Tax considerations
Contributions to a DAF are generally treated as irrevocable charitable gifts to the sponsoring 501(c)(3) and may be tax-deductible in the year given. Actual deductibility depends on your individual tax situation.
Current law caps cash contributions to public charities at up to 60% of adjusted gross income (AGI), with appreciated securities at up to 30% of AGI at fair market value, and a five-year carryforward for unused deductions. Additional provisions from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025 (OBBBA) introduced new 2026 rules including a 0.5% AGI floor and a 35% cap for top-bracket filers.
DAFs are also subject to IRS Sections 4966 and 4967 governing certain transactions. Pending Treasury regulations may further affect DAF treatment.

Laws change. Policies vary.
Tax law and DAF regulations change over time. Each DAF sponsor sets its own policies on minimums, fees, accepted assets, and grants. The CFC-DAF runs under ImpactAssets’ policies; if you give from your own DAF at another sponsor, your sponsor’s policies govern your account.
This page provides general information only. It is not tax, legal, or financial advice. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change. Please consult a qualified advisor before contributing. CFC-DAF contributions are administered by ImpactAssets, Inc. — see the ImpactAssets DAF Program Circular for full terms.
