Do good. Do well.
I wrote my last check to cancer charities in 1999.
It’s not because I didn’t want to offer support. I really did! When my best friend was diagnosed with breast cancer, I felt it was important to do something to help her, and others like her. So I wrote the checks, I bid at the auctions, I walked the walks, I ran the runs. Like so many others, I hoped it would make a difference.
But the checks didn’t make a big difference, not for my friend, anyway. She lost her battle to cancer. So I tried to learn how the donations that I made were helping people.
What I learned was disappointing. I discovered that the majority of my donation kept the doors of the charity open, with only a small part going to support research. And I couldn’t even find out what research it was supporting. Believe me, I tried.
So I stopped donating. There. I said it.

But isn’t supporting cancer research important?
I always knew that cancer research was important, but I didn’t know that research funding isn’t the biggest challenge facing new cancer innovations.
I learned that the innovations coming from the research that donations support still have a long path to travel before actually reaching patients. And I learned that most institutional research labs have no real plan to get their breakthroughs to patients. They do the research and leave that task to innovators – scientists, doctors, and entrepreneurs – who take their lab developments and run the gauntlet to make those research innovations available to patients. And without support, breakthrough lab innovations may stall out and eventually, many end up collecting dust on a lab shelf.
I had NO idea!
I wanted to help research save lives. But how?
It seemed to me that the best way would be to support the innovators who help great research ideas get to patients. but I didn’t know how to do that.
Then I learned about the idea of CANCER FUND.
CANCER FUND lets everyday people like me (and you) support cancer innovators as they work to bring research innovations to patients. THIS was a way that I could have that IMPACT that I didn’t see happen from writing a check to a cancer charity.
Don’t get me wrong. Many charities do important work to support cancer patients. But while research gets BILLIONS of dollars in funding, many of those innovations go nowhere without support.
CANCER FUND would allow me to take the same money I would have donated to charity and redirect it to help cancer innovations reach patients to save lives – more impact! And, I might even get a financial return on my investment!
THAT made sense to me!
Earlier this year, I was excited to write my first check investing in CANCER FUND I, the first investment fund at CANCER FUND.
My investment, combined with those of other CANCER FUND investors, helped a company called Reglagene complete their animal trials this spring, which are opening the door to discussions with the FDA about getting their medicines to patients. You can learn more about why CANCER FUND I supported Reglagene here. You see, CANCER FUND shares where and why it invests so our community of investors know how they are making a real difference.
I can’t express the joy I felt when I learned that Reglagene’s animal trails were incredibly successful. I couldn’t wait to share the feeling of putting money toward something that may save other’s lives with those closest to me.
I literally did a little happy dance! I was so excited!
And it’s exciting to follow what Reglagene is doing, all while thinking, “I’m helping to make that happen!”
I feel proud!
I NEVER felt anything remotely like that when I donated in the past. I can actually see a future where Reglagene would be talked about and I could tell my children, “That was a medication I helped support.” It feels real and SO satisfying.
THIS support makes me feel like I’m doing something important for others who will hear those words, “You have cancer.”
It feels like I am leaving a legacy!
I hope this will be the first of many checks I’ll get to write to CANCER FUND to support more innovators like Reglagene, and I hope you will consider joining me.
With CANCER FUND, I don’t DONATE money – I INVEST IT in the future. . . and you can too!

CANCER DONOR TURNED CANCER FUND INVESTOR
I felt helpless whenever another family member or friend had to deal with cancer so I donated to cancer charities to help but I didn’t see any direct, measurable impact. I invest in CANCER FUND because I can see exactly how my support funds innovations for colon, breast, and other cancers I care about. And I see real impact. I would love to chat with you about investing in CANCER FUND. Drop us your info so we can talk more.
We get it. Donating to cancer causes is easy while investing seems complicated and risky. You might even lose all of your money . . . just like donating. With CANCER FUND, you invest to help cancer innovations reach patients and maybe earn a return on your money . . . not at all like donating.
